Jewelry Trends Translate from The Runways, Modern Design Studios and Antique Fairs
I love the time of year when the ready-to-wear runway collections, major red carpet events, jewelry studio and renowned house working on their new collections and the large antique fairs all take place almost concurrently to help us decipher and predict the trends and the looks you will want to add to your jewelry collections and wardrobes. In this article, we take a look at the fall/winter ready-to-wear collections and how they translate into both modern and antique jewels we are seeing in the studios and at recent trade shows. I personally am swayed by the way a pair of earrings, a pendant or a brooch inspired by the past can cross-over with authentic antiques and render them relevant and current again.
The major directions we are seeing is a return to the 80s in leopard prints, bold color and statement jewelry, a return to Victoriana but with a dose of playfulness in pirate style jewelry with almost a buried treasure feeling. There is an ongoing 1920s’-1930s vibe with everything from women hiking up their skirts and gaining the right to vote to the bold geometric Art Deco lines and silhouettes. Most predominant is the trend towards empowered femininity–assertive, romantic and strong, celebrating women everywhere!
Here’s what we saw on the runway so far and how they translate into what we saw at modern jewelry trade shows, designer studios and antique fairs during the past month.
